Jo Whitfield
Jo Whitfield started her career in hospitality from straight out of college, beginning in the Canberra Club industry in restaurant and bar, working four years in clubs before moving into hotels.
In 1991, Jo started studying at CIT in Hospitality Management and represented the ACT at national level in Waiting. Four months into her studies, Jo applied to work for the Hyatt Hotel Canberra where she stayed for 7 years, 3 years in various F&B roles and four years within Human Resources. At this time she also taught F&B at CIT, as well as competing, then training competitors and later judging Worldskills competitions in Waiting.
Moves to Auckland, the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne followed, including roles in TAFE as a hospitality teacher with Cooloola Sunshine Institute of TAFE, HR management in Hospitality, HR roles in the golf industry and corporate arena, before returning to Canberra at the end of 2004. Since 2005, Jo has been teaching Hospitality and Hotel management at Canberra Institute of Technology.
